Mountainous region south of Narbonne and Carcassonne. The region has a long tradition in wine, for the Romans already shipped large quantities of wine from the port of Narbonne.
It is only since recent days that the region is heading to become an important wine region in terms of quality.

-Only red, white and rosé wine
-Grape varieties red and rosé wine: Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsaut.
-Grape varieties white wine: Clairette, Grenache blanc, Bourboulenc, Ugni blanc, Roussanne, Rolle, Maccabéo, Marsanne.
-Production max. 60 hl. per ha.

One should divide the Corbières in the Corbières-Maritime with calcerous soils near the sea and the rugged Hautes-Corbières with rocky, limestone soils.

Mediterranean climate with long hot summers and mild winters. The dry winds of the Pyrenees, like the Tramontana, help to make this region one of the driest in France.
