Enormous wine region, sometimes mountainous and raw, full of sunshine, with over 3000 hours of sun per year, while a vine only needs half. The wine region consists of 3 départements and 84 communes. The major part of the production comprises rosé wines.


-Surface: 19160 ha.
-Only red, rosé and white wines.
-Only wines from selected parcels in the defined communities
-Grape varieties red and rosé wine: Grenache, Cinsault, Tibouren, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carrignan, Cabernet Sauvignon.
-Grape varieties white wine: Clairette, Ugni Blanc, Rolle, Sémillon.
-Max. production 55 hl. per ha.

Predominantly granite but also soils that are of calcareous, pebbly, clay, at some places sandy soils with gravels.

Mediterranean climate with long hot summers followed by a sunny autumn.
Mild winters and a relatively humid spring. The Mediterranean can induce sharp changes of weather with heavy rains. The mistral can be very present.
